Dear Early Years Provider,
We thought it would be good to share some specific updates in relation to supporting children in early years with SEND.
Resources for Children with SEND
Please find attached details of some resources the Early Years Portage and Inclusion Team have collated for both Early Years Practitioners and for parents.
Early Years Speech and Language Support
The Speech and Language Therapy Team can be contacted and are available for:
- Signposting to ideas for language and communication
- Phone calls to a specific parent who has concerns / would like some advice
- Advice for early years practitioners
Please see attached the contact details for the Speech and Language Therapists in each area of the city.
Educational Psychology Support
The support from Educational Psychologists that is commissioned by Early Years for early years providers continues to be available remotely and not currently face to face.
Those requests for involvement that have been agreed and allocated, the Educational Psychologist will be contacting those settings to let them know the next steps and to identify if there is any advice they can offer in the current situation.
If you have concerns regarding a child and would like to request support please submit a Request for Involvement as you would normally do, and we will discuss with the team the most appropriate way to provide support.
The Early Years SEN Panel
As per guidance shared with all early years providers we will continue to be holding an Early Years SEN Panel and allocating additional funding to support children with SEND to access their early years entitlement. However we will be limiting the scope of the panel to look exclusively at:
- New Referrals for children attending
- Reviews where needs or circumstances have changed for the child and it has become necessary to make a request for a BAND increase
As already shared all children who are due to be reviewed in May or June have automatically had their funding extended and settings will have received written notification.
Transitions
We know a number of you have expressed concerns about children’s transition into school and how to ensure they are effectively supported. We will keep you updated in regard to this as and when the current situation changes from the Government perspective, however we are working on guidance in this area.
